About the Search for PhRMA’s Next Regional Senior Director of State Advocacy
After a deep discovery process to identify the organization’s most critical business issues and strategic priorities, Staffing Advisors sought an experienced advocacy leader to develop and execute state-level legislative and regulatory strategies aligned with PhRMA’s priorities, advancing proactive, patient-centered policies across their assigned region.
The search was led by Staffing Advisors Vice President of Executive Search Aileen Hedden, with strategy consulting from Founder & President Bob Corlett and support from the entire Staffing Advisors team.
Working closely with PhRMA’s leadership, Staffing Advisors surfaced several key competency areas for the role. A summary of each is listed below:
- Strategy and Leadership. Develop and implement state-level strategies to achieve legislative and regulatory goals in assigned states. Lead PhRMA’s regional/state advocacy initiatives in collaboration with member companies and internal policy teams. Manage regional government affairs consultants to ensure high-quality, timely execution of advocacy plans.
- Legislative & Regulatory Engagement. Monitor, analyze, and respond to proposed legislation and regulations. Develop and deliver policy positions, testimony, and advocacy materials. Represent PhRMA at legislative hearings, public meetings, and state agency briefings.
- Relationship Building. Build and sustain relationships with key state officials, agency staff, and stakeholders aligned with PhRMA’s policy interests. Maintain relationships with aligned trade associations, patient groups, business coalitions, and other allies.
- Operations & Administration. Support the operational needs of a physical regional office, including vendor management and forecasting.
The Staffing Advisors team was honored to support PhRMA in this important leadership transition. We have also partnered with PhRMA on key roles in its information technology function, including a Senior Director of Information Technology and a Senior Director of Applications, and have placed several state policy directors across different regions.
