Staffing Advisors is proud to have partnered with Civic Builders (Civic) in the selection of its Chief Lending and Investment Officer, Kathryn McHugh. Civic Builders is the nation’s leading nonprofit charter school lender and developer with an operating budget of over $10MM and approximately 30 staff members. Civic Builders’ portfolio represents $1.5 billion invested into economically distressed communities to ensure all students have access to safe, positive, and student-centered learning environments. About the Search for Civic Builders’ Next Chief Lending and Investment Officer

After a deep discovery process to identify the organization’s most critical business issues and strategic priorities, Staffing Advisors sought an executive with an in-depth understanding of the lending process, experience with structuring funds for mission-driven organizations, and expertise in leading teams to develop financial products and services that meet the specific needs of underserved and marginalized communities.

The search was led by Staffing Advisors Vice President of Executive Search Aileen Hedden, with strategy consulting from Founder & President Bob Corlett and support from the entire Staffing Advisors team.

Working closely with Civic’s leadership, Staffing Advisors surfaced several key focus areas that would demonstrate success within the new leader’s first 1-2 years:

  • Strategic Direction. Develop and execute a vision to help Civic Builders better serve school leaders, expand lending capabilities, and design and steward innovative loan products to make a real difference in students’ lives and revitalize communities nationwide.
  • Lending Operations and Capital Management. Direct all business operations, manage staff relations, and oversee capital management. Drive product improvement, strengthen the financial sustainability of FIF’s operations, and manage risks associated with the FIF portfolio. Work across departments to assess needs and implement ongoing business process and systems improvements that foster efficient, scalable practices and standardize the work.
  • External Engagement and Thought Leadership. Act as the face of the Facilities Investment Fund with external stakeholders (nonprofit developers and lenders, intermediary organizations, funders, etc.) and the board. Represent Civic as a thought leader in the charter schools lending sector.

The Staffing Advisors team was honored to support Civic Builders in this important leadership transition. We have also partnered with Civic on other key roles, including a Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Lending.
