About the Search for the ONS’s Next CEO

After a deep discovery process to identify the organization’s most critical business issues and strategic priorities, Staffing Advisors sought a chief executive officer to govern all three entities, each with its own board, and sustain strategic direction across the enterprise as board leadership evolves in each organization. The new leader would ensure the enterprise adapts as the oncology nursing profession evolves and member and customer expectations shift, while also creating a cohesive staff culture across all entities.

The search was led by Staffing Advisors Founder & President, Bob Corlett, with the support of Vice President of Operations and Strategy, Brooke Lockhart, and the entire Staffing Advisors team.

Working closely with the search committee, board, and key stakeholders, Staffing Advisors surfaced several key focus areas in which the new leader would drive impact. A summary of each is listed below:

  • Board Alignment. Maximize board expertise across all entities to drive enterprise goals. Provide data-driven insights and strategic recommendations to support informed decisions. Ensure staff alignment with Board directives and keep leadership informed on key progress.
  • Business Model Innovation & Financial Oversight. Ensure financial sustainability and growth across all three multi-million-dollar organizations. Drive business model innovation and explore new funding sources, program expansion, technology investments, and operational efficiencies to optimize resources and reduce costs.
  • Education, Training, & Resources. Explore new ways to discover and deliver knowledge when and where nurses need it through innovative learning modalities, flexible course formats, and on-demand delivery methods.
  • External Relations. Position ONS as a global leader in oncology nursing. Act as the enterprise’s primary spokesperson and position the enterprise to address emerging issues and opportunities proactively. Build strategic alliances across industries, including other associations and professional organizations, patient advocacy groups, providers, and fundraising partners. Lead lobbying, government affairs, and regulatory efforts.
  • Membership Growth & Engagement. Collaborate with the board to refine membership models, driving growth, engagement, and revenue. Explore new member segments and structures to expand reach. Strengthen the value proposition to attract and retain members while ensuring staff resources are allocated to support expansion without sacrificing quality or service.
  • Staff Leadership & Organizational Culture. Lead a fully remote workforce with strategic team structures and clear accountability. Foster a unified organizational culture and identity that promotes collaboration and high performance across each entity.
  • Strategic Planning, Innovation, & Change Management. Anticipate industry shifts and foster a culture of innovation, spirit of inquiry, and calculated risk-taking to rapidly develop new products and services that meet emerging needs and maintain enterprise relevance. Champion emerging technologies, including AI, to enhance efficiency.
