Kidney disease affects more than 1 in 7 US adults—that’s 35.5 million Americans. With an unmatched scope of programs, the American Kidney Fund (AKF) directly supports patients and caregivers wherever they are in the fight against the disease, from prevention to post-transplant living. As Director of Digital Fundraising, you will lead the strategy, execution, and growth of AKF’s digital fundraising efforts, with a focus on increasing donor engagement and revenue across all digital channels, including email, SMS, web, SEM programmatic advertising, and paid/organic social. This is an opportunity to join a high-performing and collegial fundraising team that consistently exceeds growth targets and plays a critical role in securing financial support for one of the nation’s most trusted nonprofit organizations.
This is a highly collaborative role where you’ll work closely with your direct supervisor, the Senior Director of Individual Giving, as well as the Chief Development Officer, the marketing and communications team, and other departments across AKF. You’ll also manage vendor partnerships to ensure seamless execution of multi-channel campaigns that support and enhance established programs. You’ll shape a comprehensive digital fundraising strategy that drives conversions across a $3M+ (and growing) portfolio—including online giving, car donation program, peer-to-peer fundraising, and planned giving. We’ll look to you to bring a holistic, data-informed perspective to the portfolio, regularly evaluating performance across channels, optimizing where possible, and prioritizing areas with the greatest potential for impact and revenue growth. You’ll be stepping into a well-developed function with a strong infrastructure, clear goals, exceptional leadership, and the resources you need to succeed.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Your work will help ensure that every digital touchpoint builds trust, drives giving, and deepens donor connection to our mission. Success in the first 1–2 years will be demonstrated by:
- Designing and implementing integrated digital strategies across email, paid media, social, and web to drive donor engagement and revenue, ensuring all campaigns are optimized for performance and align with AKF’s brand and strategic goals.
- Using the full capabilities of Engaging Networks and Raiser’s Edge to drive smarter segmentation and automation, while analyzing platform data to inform campaign strategy and strengthen donor acquisition, retention, and long-term engagement.
- Collaborating with internal teams and vendors to coordinate messaging and campaign execution, ensuring a seamless donor journey across all programs and platforms.
Work Environment, Salary, and Benefits
- You’ll enjoy a hybrid work schedule with an average of 1 day in-office weekly in our North Bethesda, MD, office. We currently support employees in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, DC, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Occasional out-of-town travel may be required (less than 5%).
- The budgeted salary range for this position is $120K – $125K plus 3-6% bonus potential. AKF offers comprehensive benefits, including a matching 403b retirement plan, health, dental, vision, and life insurance, short- and long-term disability, flex spending, and generous leave.
- Additional perks include paid underground parking, Metro subsidies, employee-led recognition and social events throughout the year, and shorter workdays on Fridays.
- You are joining a diverse team of open, collaborative, and supportive colleagues who care deeply about our mission, the people we serve, and each other. AKF is financially secure and led by a national board of trustees that is appropriately engaged, supportive, and appreciative of the team. We’re proud to be recognized as one of the NonProfit Times’ “Best Nonprofits to Work For” in 2025, an honor we’ve received four times in recent years.
