Director, Education

A national healthcare association* is seeking a Director of Education to lead the modernization of its education portfolio and increase value for members through cutting-edge professional development and programming for events. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will develop and implement a comprehensive education strategy to improve how resources are organized and delivered, increase membership participation and satisfaction through innovative formats, and expand topics to serve both longstanding and emerging member segments.

In this role, you will balance strategic vision with hands-on execution, supported by a coordinator/administrative team member. Day-to-day, you will own the design, development, and delivery of the association’s education portfolio, including a year-round calendar of webinars, two certification programs, educational programming for the annual meeting and other events, and grant programs that advance the research presented at events.

You will also lead strategic initiatives such as reimagining programming for the annual meeting as the association shifts to a more consolidated program, exploring new virtual and hybrid learning models, and repackaging archived content into targeted programming that helps members discover relevant resources beyond new releases. You will have the autonomy to test new formats, leverage new technologies, including AI, and make data-informed decisions about where to invest resources. This might include piloting micro-learning modules, implementing tools to personalize content recommendations, or creating on-demand learning pathways.

This role is ideal for an experienced education leader who is equally comfortable building new programs and optimizing existing resources, who leverages data and member feedback to drive decisions, and who is passionate about transforming how healthcare professionals access the expertise they need to grow their careers and improve patient care.

How You’ll Make an Impact

As a strategic partner to the CEO and a key liaison to committees, you will identify and build new opportunities to engage members while ensuring smooth operations across all current programs. Key responsibilities include:

Education Strategy & Innovation

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive education strategy aligned with organizational goals and member needs, including annual planning, budget oversight, and performance measurement.
  • Lead modernization initiatives such as piloting new delivery models, repackaging archived content, and evaluating emerging technologies, including AI tools.
  • Use data analytics and member feedback to make data-based decisions about resource investment and program improvements.

Events & Research

  • Oversee educational programming for the annual meeting and other events, including topic selection, speaker and keynote recruitment, content coordination, abstract solicitation, peer review, and CME administration; serve as primary content liaison while partnering with meeting planners on logistics.
  • Administer grant programs from topic selection through fund distribution, including managing application cycles, scoring, recipient selection, and promotion in collaboration with communications staff.

Professional Development & Certification

  • Plan and execute webinars and a hybrid seminar, working with committees to identify topics and speakers, managing presenters, moderating live sessions, and collaborating with communications staff on promotional campaigns.
  • Manage recordings, materials, and content updates across all professional development offerings.
  • Oversee two certification programs, coordinating with committees on exam development and serving as liaison with exam vendors.

Content Management

  • Manage the learning management system (LMS), including evaluating and repurposing materials into new formats and working with committees to identify content needing updates.
  • Monitor system performance and recommend platform improvements.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with committees, volunteers, and member stakeholders; coordinate committee meetings, prepare materials, track action items, and facilitate consensus-building.
  • Provide direction and support to a coordinator/administrative team member and support colleagues across departments during peak periods.

Work Environment, Salary, and Benefits

  • This role is primarily remote, with once a month in-person collaboration in the Washington, DC area. Candidates based outside the region will also be considered. Travel within the U.S. is required to attend and support national events.
  • The salary range for this position is $130K – $150K annually, depending on experience and location. Candidates in higher-cost markets may be considered at the top of the range. The association provides outstanding benefits, including fully paid individual health, dental, and vision coverage, 8% employer retirement contribution, a wellness benefit, and generous paid time off with flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in education program management for a membership organization, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role overseeing professional development and certification programs.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement education strategy, including setting priorities, managing budgets, measuring outcomes, and leading organizational change initiatives.
  • Expertise in conference and event education, including content development, speaker management, and abstract review. CME administration experience is highly preferred.
